Session 1 (10/28/2010)
After awakening with my hands clutched around the throat of a dead wizard I have found myself thrust into an eerily familar, yet different world. With funds and gear liberated from my awakener I have made my way to Restov. It is grander then my patched memory remembers, yet at the same time darker, more desperate, and weaker.
The Swordlords. The word rings in my blood and conjures flashes of swordplay, gallantry, and adventure. Was I perhaps once one? I think perhaps I was. Perhaps more. They say Restov is in danger. About to be invaded by the northerners. They have put out a call to induct new members to their ranks. This is destiny; this is the time to re-invigorate - re-invent - the Swordlords from within.
To that end I arrived at the grounds first and signed up for the 3M event. An event to test the might, mastery, and minds of the candidates. As the other two dozen or so candidates arrived I chose from amoung them the fiercest and finest: a set of twins from the far south, their dark skins set off in the exotic animal skins they wore; a keen-eyed elven archer; a gruff dwarven priest; and a barbarian shaman from the northern tribes.
A young lad, Aelvin, hired to ask them to meet me at the Dragon's Flagon Inn, did not let me down and so we met and discussed the future of Restov and the Swordlords.
The tests have proved an obstacle to my plans. Though we have all passed into the final dozen candidates, not all of us have be able to shine in the contests and it seems not all will make it into the final six invited to join the Swordlords. These tests seem devised by a scribe, not a true leader or judge of men. They are random and too much luck is involved to truly shine. Still, the final test is a true challenge: combat. Soon we shall see if I am truly back to set the course of Brevoy aright.
I write this now from the barracks of the Swordlord initiates. Five of the six of us have passed into the ranks of the Swordlords. Ironically it was the twin brother, Mango, who we had to best to enter and now he is on the outside. His brother Maji is torn. Our sixth brother is an archer who seems somewhat bent on derailing the contest. During the fight, which was not to the death, he offered the shaman and I cash to kill our opponents. An act that would have disqualified us and subjected us to the justice of the Swordlords. Yet he almost killed Mango. I must investigate this and confront him, for we cannot afford a snake in our midst. I fear a plot by the northerners to infiltrate and destroy the Swordlords from within.
